Court official tapped for judge vacancy

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. has named Douglas B. Thomas to fill a judgeship in 7th District Court to replace retiring Judge Bruce Halliday.

The 7th District in the state court system includes Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties.

Thomas is a court commissioner in the 2nd District. He attended Weber State and Brigham Young universities and got his master's degree and law degree from the University of Utah. His nomination will not be final until confirmed by the Senate.
