Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La., Romney's chief congressional liaison, announced that 23 House members have joined Romney's Congressional Whip Team. Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, and Rep. Howard Buck McKeon, R-Calif., are the only two LDS Church members on the list.

McCrery said that before he signed on in support of Romney, he asked a lot of questions, including how the candidate will handle the "Mormon question" that is bound to come up.

"If he deals with it publicly the way he dealt with it with me, he'll be great," McCrery said. In a meeting in Boston, McCrery said, Romney simply explained his values on religion, his wife and his family. McCrery said he was satisfied with the answer.

"He's the real deal," McCrery said.

Utah's Republican U.S. House members have not endorsed any candidate yet. Reps. Rob Bishop and Chris Cannon say it is too early in the process, according to aides.
