OREM — Looking for love that doesn't cost $3.99 a card?

Deonne Chadwick, events coordinator at Robert's Crafts, and Kristy Lee, a teacher of paper crafts, can help out.

Lee's set of four cards, complete with "I love you" and heart-shape cutouts, cost only about $1 each to make.

"It takes about two hours to build all four, and the cost per kit was $3.86," Lee said.

Lee designed the cards by sitting down and playing with the pieces she could buy and create with her electronic die-cutting machine.

"I get out my snack candy — chocolate's a must, my Diet Coke and listen to my iPod," she said.

The results include unique, pretty cards with personality and color.

"I wanted to give them the handmade touch," she said.

Participants who come to the classes at the store learn to make all four and also go away with the skills they need to create their own cards.

Card-making classes are scheduled each month at the Orem store, and Lee tries to plan at least a month ahead of major holidays and events.

Next month she'll be sharing ideas on birthday cards.

Lee lives in Saratoga Springs and has scrapbooked for 12 years. She not only teaches at Robert's Crafts but is a featured designer for several companies, including the online Creative Xpress Web cast classes.
