Davis County's Senior Services Advisory Board is looking for people interested in becoming members of the newly created Davis County Healthy Living Council.

The council's purpose is to develop a coordinated strategy and a workable plan to put into action quality standards for nutrition and exercise programs in the county with an initial focus on senior programs.

The Healthy Living Council will operate under the direction of the Senior Services Advisory Council.

Lewis Garrett, health department director, said the first areas to be looked at by the council will be senior activity center meals, nutrition and exercise awareness in the home, and preparedness plans.

"Increasing our focus on healthy living is critical to the citizens of Davis County. As we eat better and healthier foods, our health will increase and so will our quality of life," he said. "We are very supportive of programs that can have such positive results."

The Healthy Living Council membership will include a person from the Davis County Senior Services Advisory Board who serves as the council's chair, volunteer members from the community who have nutrition and healthy living experience, each of the Davis County senior activity center managers and the county health department's director for the Family Health & Senior services Division, Sally Kershisnik.

People interested in joining the council should call Cindy Nielsen at 451-3354.
