Myriad events planned for Interfaith Week

The Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable is celebrating Interfaith Week this week. Events include:

• Sunday, 1 p.m.: An afternoon discussion of Mary Magdalene will be featured at the Salt Lake City Library, 210 E. 400 South. The event is co-sponsored by the Salt Lake City Film Center and Friends of the J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah.

A new book, "Secrets of Mary Magdalene," will be discussed by a contributing author, Maxine Hanks, along with a screening of the book's DVD. The DVD features a 45-minute documentary on Magdalene, and a 45-minute roundtable with seven contributors in the book.

The documentary screening will be at 1 p.m.; roundtable screening, 2 p.m.; and Hanks' discussion, 3 p.m.

• Wednesday, 7-8:30 p.m.: "Achieving Peace in Our Community Through Politics and Religion: Is Nonviolence Possible?" is a public forum at Westminster College Gore Concert Hall. It will be hosted by hosted by Doug Fabrizio of KUER and include a panel discussion.

• Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.: The Christian Science Church, 1165 Foothill Drive, will focus its Wednesday evening testimony meeting on "God's Blessings Are for Everyone."

• Thursday, 6 p.m., "Celebration of Noah's Tradition" at the Salt Lake City Library, 210 E. 400 South, fourth floor conference room. The prophets Noah and Abraham are the common father of Jews, Muslims and Christians. Panelists will talk about the place of messengers.

• Thursday, 5:30 p.m.: Salt Lake Friends (Quakers) will hold their monthly quiet witness for peace at the Gallivan Center on the east sidewalk on Main Street between 200 South and 300 South, across from the Gallivan TRAX station. For more information, contact Heidi Hart at 366-3334.

• Sunday, Feb. 11, 11 a.m.: Bountiful Community Church of the United Church of Christ will sponsor an African-American History service. Call 295-9439 for more information.

• Sunday, Feb. 11, 5 p.m.: An Interfaith Musical Tribute to the Human Spirit Concert, "A Call to Prayer," at Assembly Hall in Temple Square. Tickets are free but required to ensure a seat, so please call 570-0080. Clergy, singers, dancers, and musical performers from Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Baha'i and Christian traditions will share their talents.
