Battle of the rock operas
Productions of 'Tommy,' 'Superstar' will be performed locally next week
An unofficial competition will be played out on local stages next week as a local, professional production of "The Who's Tommy" goes head to head with the national "farewell tour" of "Jesus Christ Superstar."
The two rock operas date back to the late 1960s and early '70s, and both began as concept records before becoming stage plays and films.
It ain't Rodgers and Hammerstein or Lerner and Loewe, but both shows have legions of faithful followers, and it's a rare occasion to have two such productions live on local stages at the same time.
