A bill to require parental consent before Utah teenagers visit tanning salons received final approval Tuesday in the Senate and now moves to the House for consideration.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Pat Jones, D-Holladay, would require parents to personally visit tanning salons every 12 months and sign a consent form for their children. It also allows parents to specify the number of tanning sessions allowed in each year-long period.
SB52 intends to implement statewide requirements on teen tanning. Davis County already requires parental consent, but health officials say teens often skirt the regulation by crossing county lines.
