MASON MILLER, Juan Diego: The play of this senior point guard was a big reason why the Soaring Eagle were able to hand No. 2 Delta its first loss of the season last week.

In addition to handling Delta's full-court press with relative ease, Miller racked up 17 points, dished out several assists and did an overall outstanding job in leading Juan Diego to the 56-38 road victory. Two nights later he scored eight points in a 54-37 win over Emery.

Miller leads Juan Diego (10-6) in scoring at 11.0 ppg.

"Pound for pound he is as good of a competitor (as) anyone," said coach Sonny Tangaro. "He doesn't back away from any challenge.

CHAVALAH WASHINGTON, Murray High: This senior is a leader for the Spartans both on and off the basketball court.

The versatile guard is currently the leading scorer in 4A with 17.3 points per game. Her efforts have helped the Spartans to a first-place tie in Region 6, including a 25-point effort against Cyprus and a 24-point performance against Olympus.

Washington is key defensively, as well, with six steals and seven rebounds in each of those games. She's a four-year varsity starter and maintains a 3.7 GPA. She is also the student body president and teamed up with teammate Koby Solorio in doubles tennis to earn a second-place finish in the 4A state tournament last fall.
