OREM A young Utah County couple, 25-year-old Joshua Rich and 20-year-old Kylee Rich, were in the Utah County Jail and facing possible federal bank robbery charges Sunday night.
Police arrested Joshua Samuel Rich, suspected of robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Lindon at gunpoint Saturday morning, at 7:20 p.m. Sunday after receiving a tip that he was hiding out in a friend's apartment in Orem.
Police had already arrested Rich's wife, Kylee Ann Rich, his suspected accomplice in the heist, on Saturday.
Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Cody Cullimore said Joshua Rich was apprehended without incident from an apartment at 1500 North and 1200 West in Orem.
"We received a call that a woman who knew him had seen him" in the apartment, Cullimore said. "We surrounded the home" about 6:45 p.m. Sunday.
Police later stopped a vehicle as it left the apartment. The woman inside, an acquaintance of Rich's, told police Rich was inside the apartment with her father. Police then contacted the father on his cell phone, spoke to Rich and convinced him to come out of the apartment and surrender, Cullimore said.
Rich was being interviewed by police late Sunday night.
Cullimore said Rich's vehicle had been located overnight, and a search turned up both the weapon and clothes Rich is believed to have used in the robbery. Police were hoping Rich would give them permission to enter an Orem hotel room where he is believed to have spent the night. They suspected the stolen money would be in the room. If not, they planned to obtain a search warrant to retrieve it, Cullimore said.
Kylee Rich was arrested Saturday after police stopped a car on I-15 that matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving the bank following the robbery. Police believe she had met with her husband shortly after the robbery and switched cars.
The bank, at 150 S. State in Lindon, was robbed about 11:40 a.m. Saturday. Cullimore said police believe it was the third time the same man had robbed the same bank, the other two heists occurring on Nov. 10 and Nov. 22 of last year.
Police say the man who roobed the bank Saturday was wearing a mask when he showed a large-caliber handgun and demanded money. He left with undisclosed amount of cash and no one was hurt.
Police on Saturday also took into custody another man they believe had knowledge of, or participated in, the robbery. It was later determined that man was not involved in the theft, Cullimore said.
Police initially believed on Saturday that Rich was in a Pleasant Grove apartment. But as SWAT team members approached, a woman left the apartment and was taken into custody for questioning. She has been released and faces no charges, Cullimore said.
When asked if it is unusual for a person to rob the same bank three times, Cullimore said, "This is the first I've heard of it. It's pretty odd."
