Korean scholars paid a visit Thursday to Salt Lake City School District's Open Classroom after a book authored by OC leaders caught the eye of professors at Pusan National University, Korea.
In 2001, the OC teachers and parents wrote the book "Learning Together" to detail the unique cooperative learning environment that they pioneered in the Salt Lake program.
Last year Pusan National University started Brain Korea 21, a program to create an innovative education system for Korea and Third World countries. In reading the OC publication Korean officials felt the Open Classroom was an ideal model for schools in their program.
Thursday the Korean educators toured the OC and spoke with teachers, parents and students.
The OC is a charter school in Salt Lake School District where parents work collectively with teachers in the classroom.
