Dixie College used a fumble recovery on a bobbled punt to set up a winning score, and Ricks College's goal-line defense helped the Vikings to victory, as both teams remain atop the Western States Football League standings.

The Rebels, third in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll last week, needed a 20-yard field goal from Bill Hansen with 24 seconds to play to beat Scottsdale 37-35 in Arizona. Meanwhile, the Vikings, ranked ninth in the national poll, turned back a stiff challenge from winless Eastern Arizona 14-10 at Rexburg, Idaho. In other games, Mesa College beat No. 11 Glendale 15-10 and Snow College beat Arizona Western 40-17 in Ephraim, Utah.

Dixie's field goal followed a bobbled punt by Scottsdale's Josh Miller, who was tackled on his 2-yard line. The Artichokes, who led throughout the game until the late score by Dixie, marched to position to try for a game-winning field goal, but Miller's 58-yard attempt fell short as the game ended.

Ricks' Brian Downey found tight end Eric Moss on scoring passes of 21 and 6 yards, but it was the Viking defense that preserved the win. The Gila Monsters failed to score on four attempts inside the 2-yard line late in the fourth quarter.
