Categorically speaking Notable happenings from 2006-07 season so far
The Utah County high school girls basketball teams have been playing ball for two months now, and the hardwood has seen its share of memorable moments, monumental performances, huge wins, hard losses and career builders.
These girls deserve a few awards for all of their hard work and timely accomplishments. Here are a few of the more noticeable achievements the 2006-07 hardcourt season has brought.
BEST WINLESS DEFENSE IN THE PRESEASON Mountain View Bruins: This typically powerful offense couldn't find the bucket early on, but the Bruins were awfully stingy on the other end, especially considering they opened the season with 11 straight losses.
SISTER ACT WITH SOME PUNCH Cammie and Kelsey Nelson, Provo: These two made big noise in their first game of the season, and they haven't stopped the racket since.
GUARD HER AT THE DRINKING FOUNTAIN Jenna Johnson, Spanish Fork: Though some people might think she's impossible to stop, it is feasible. Just surround her with your entire defense and do your best not to let her touch the ball. Then pray she doesn't bust out for more than 25.
SHORT BENCH WITH AN ATTITUDE Orem Tigers: This team has to be in great condition because it never comes off the court. A six-player rotation doesn't make life easy, especially when you have a defending champion target on your back.
JUNIOR HIGH IMPACT Amy Krommenhoek, American Fork, and Kendall Scott, Lehi (tie): These two play big minutes with big roles. Are you sure they aren't upperclassmen?
BEST LAST-SECOND GAME-WINNER IMPERSONATION DURING A BLOWOUT Lone Peak Knights: The entire team jumped off the bench with claps and screams when seldom-used freshman Chloe Jarema hit her first bucket ever at the end of the Knights' 71-23 blowout over Lehi.
DOUBLE TROUBLE Cali Nelson and Amy Weitzeil, Timpanogos: Though they have had a rough time staying on the court together, when they manage, it turns into a twin tower nightmare for the opponent.
