Model trains bound for Lehi

LEHI — The Ophir-Tinic & Western Model Railroad Club returns this weekend with whistles, smoke and charm in its 16th annual train show.

Bob Schearer, spokesman for the model railroaders' club, said he expects attendance to be even higher than last year.

"It was good last year. We probably had between 2,000 to 3,000 people," Schearer said.

Kids of any age are welcome, he said, from toddlers to adults who still find the little trains intriguing.

This year's show will include more Lego trains and tracks. Last year, they were the most popular venue.

There will also be N-scale, HO and S-scale set-ups.

The local show is Utah County's largest model train show and features modelers as well as vendors who sell classic train cars, tracks and display items. There are also clinics and opportunities for children to experience — and operate — the trains first-hand.

"We even have one kid who is having his birthday party at the train show," Schearer said.
