The Dance
Filmed in Utah and on location in Boston, this romantic comedy follows three couples as they attend an LDS stake singles dance. The movie mostly sticks with the conversations and adventures of that one night, garnished with the antics of Wolfman, the hired disc jockey.
By way of introduction, one couple is a middle-aged, temple-married pair with grown children. These two are pretty sure they can do the "eternity" part, but not so sure about doing the time. Another couple consists of a recent divorcee with two children, and a never-been-married 36-year-old who has either been too picky or too busy making money to get married. Of course the cast wouldn't be complete without the recently returned missionary and his date, who also happens to be his brother's former girlfriend. You're not sure if she's active or inactive LDS or of another religious persuasion, you just know she wants a change.
This romantic comedy is not giddy or silly. It takes a step or two up as it allows you to meet and listen to the heart-felt conversations and emotions of the characters.
Half of the cast are familiar faces from "The Best Two Years," (produced by same group). "The Dance," allows you to see some nice, grown-up acting from some of these local and recognizable stars. It is well worth the ticket price you'll pay to see it.
"The Dance" will be released April 6 to Wasatch Front theaters.
