UDOT closes Farmington bridge

The Utah Department of Transportation closed the State Street bridge over Interstate 15 in Farmington early this morning, affecting drivers headed west of I-15 to the Davis Justice Center.

The closure will be in place until this fall. Work crews will be extending the bridge so that it runs over the Legacy Parkway, which is now under construction next to I-15.

UDOT is advising motorists to use Park Lane or Glover Lane as alternatives to access the Justice Center, or homes that are located west of I-15 in Farmington. John Thomas, project manager over the Legacy Parkway, said in a statement that he was hopeful that "if motorists will follow the posted detour routes, the inconvenience of this closure will be minimized."

The Legacy Parkway is anticipated to be finished sometime in late 2008. It will stretch 14 miles from North Salt Lake to Farmington. UDOT officials say that they are hopeful that the inconveniences from construction will be minimal, but other roads also will be closed as result of the project.

When work on the State Street bridge is finished, UDOT will close Glover Lane to extend it over I-15.
