Utes still 3rd in rankings

The second week of NCAA gymnastics rankings found the top three teams in the same spots, the University of Utah remaining third behind Florida and Georgia, while Stanford shot into fourth from 12th and knocked Alabama down to fifth.

Rankings are done by total season average until Feb. 19, when they will switch to Regional Qualifying Score.

Brigham Young University fell from 23rd to 25th this week, Southern Utah went from 19th to 34th and Utah State dropped from 37th to 40th.

Individually, the fall from beam on Friday night knocked Ute sophomore Kristina Baskett from No. 1 in all-around to No. 13, while junior teammate Ashley Postell stands fifth, up from ninth, and senior Nicolle Ford is 17th in her first all-around rankings appearance.

Postell (9.90 average) is tied for second on floor exercise rankings with Baskett (9.887) tied for sixth. Utes rank fifth (Ford, 9.9), ninth (Postell, 9.887), 16th (Baskett, 9.862) and 24th (Nina Kim, 9.85) on bars. Baskett (9.925) stands second in vaulting with freshman Annie DiLuzio (9.85) tied for 16th.

BYU's Dayna Smart (9.825) is 20th on floor.

In team event rankings, the Utes are tied with Stanford for first on bars (49.325), third in both vault (49.327) and floor (49.212) and seventh (48.75) with BYU 11th (48.492) on beam. The Cougars are 19th on bars (48.475).

BYU is at Utah State tonight at 6:30, the Aggies join Boise State at San Jose State Friday at 8, Southern Utah is at Cal Fullerton Friday at 8 p.m. and Utah is at Minnesota Saturday at 6 p.m.
