The Salt Lake branch of the NAACP celebrated its 23rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Luncheon by honoring E. Jean Tracy with the 2007 Rosa Parks award and John Florez with the 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. award.

The organization also honored the winners of the branch's essay contest and scholarship recipients at the Monday event held at the Little America Hotel.

Tracy earned the award for her often behind-the-scenes work to bring conventions to Utah as sales director for the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Florez, who writes a weekly column that appears in the Deseret Morning News, was recognized for his role as one of Utah's longtime advocates for civil rights.
