Bountiful/Davis Art Center will present "An Evening with William Maughan, Illustrator," at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Maughan is the director of Graduate Fine Art Painting & Illustration at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. He has been in this position since 1998 and has had other teaching positions since his graduation in 1973, with distinction, from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena.
Concurrently with his teaching career, Maughan has been a professional illustrator. A short list of his clients includes: Avon Books, CBS Television, Cosmopolitan, Danbury Mint, Doubleday & Co., Oxford University Press and Dutton Books. He has had numerous exhibits featuring his work. He has written a book, "The Artists' Complete Guide to Drawing the Head," published by Watson-Guptill. The book is often used as a text for art schools and is available through Amazon.com and most major book stores.
Maughan will discuss many aspects of contemporary illustration including the comparisons of fine art and commercial illustration as he has been very involved in both disciplines. The event will take place at Bountiful/Davis Art Center. This presentation is sponsored by Brigham Young University Art Department and arranged by Robert Barrett, BYU Art Department and one of the illustrators in the exhibit.
This event is in conjunction with the Utah Illustrators Invitational at the center. The exhibit runs through Feb. 9. Participating illustrators include Bethanne Anderson, Robert Barrett, Rob Colvin, Richard Hull, Steve Kropp, Paul Mann, Robert McKay, Sherry Meidell, Greg Newbold, Anne Marie Oborn, Mark Robison, Randall Royter, Scott Snow and Jerry Thompson. They are some of Utah's most well-known illustrators.
Additionally, the works of Justin M. Hayward and Lester B. Lee, both Bountiful artists, will be on display in the Patrons Gallery at the art center.
