From Deseret News archives:

Opposing illegals isn't racism

One of the responsibilities of a newspaper is to facilitate civil discussion on contemporary and controversial issues. The Deseret Morning News editorial, "Don't kill tuition break," (Jan. 7) continues the argument in support of illegal immigration and equates Rep. Glenn Donnelson of North Ogden to the racist policies of former Gov. George Wallace.

The Deseret Morning News has the right to support illegal immigration. However, many Utah residents strongly oppose providing benefits to individuals who are in this state illegally. Those of us who respect the rule of law and do not want Utah to become an extension of Mexico are not racists.
