PROVO The annual Walk of Life memorial service celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement will begin Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Carillon Bell Tower at Brigham Young University.
The event will be free and open to the public.
A candlelight processional will move from the bell tower to the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom. The program will include a speech by Michael Styles, director of black affairs at the State Office of Ethnic Affairs and program director for the Utah Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Commission. BYU's Black Student Union Choir will also perform musical selections.
The program also will feature a presentation of King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
The Walk of Life is sponsored by Multicultural Student Services and the Black Student Union. It will be the first of a series of events honoring Black History Month in a celebration called "May We Forever Stand."
