LaVar Christensen and Stanford D. Swim have joined the board of trustees at the Sutherland Institute, a conservative think tank based in Salt Lake City. Christensen was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2002. He also is an attorney. Swim is the president of GFC foundation, a Utah-based private foundation, and serves on the board of directors of the National Council for Adoption.

• Mountain America Credit Union has named two new branch managers. Shelley Sorenson was named manager of the credit union's Roosevelt branch, and Brett Hancock will lead the new Uintah branch in Vernal. Sorenson has been with Mountain America for seven years, most recently serving as a member service representative at the Vernal branch. Hancock has been with Mountain America for 10 years, most recently serving as manager of the credit union's Roosevelt and Altamont branches.

• Love Communications, a Salt Lake-based advertising agency, announced two staff additions. Brian Woodward was named account executive, and Jaderli Carranco was hired as the agency's new office manager. Prior to joining Love, Woodward helped develop interactive and channel-marketing strategies at another communications firm. Carranco joined the agency in November and handles front-office responsibilities including client service and media assistance for all of the firm's accounts.

Gaynell Instefjord was named managing broker for the Garden Square office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. Instefjord has worked in the real estate industry for 17 years, most recently as a coach and trainer for Coldwell Banker.

• Stoel Rives, a business law firm with offices in Salt Lake City, announced the addition of Karl E. Israelsen to its corporate practice group. Israelsen counsels clients on business formation, venture capital, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, public company reporting and corporate governance. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago and is also a graduate of the University of Texas and Utah State University.

• Zions Insurance Agency has hired Jon Baxter as a commercial insurance producer at its Salt Lake office. Baxter has more than 20 years of experience in commercial insurance, most recently serving as a senior account executive at another firm. He is licensed in property and casualty insurance and life and health insurance.
