The Division of Wildlife Resources is looking for adult volunteers to teach 6- to 13-year- olds about fishing. Volunteers are needed in several communities where youth fishing clubs have been established. Each club needs adult volunteers.
The communities are Logan (two clubs), Brigham City, Ogden, Roy, Clinton, Syracuse, Clearfield, Farmington, Bountiful (two clubs), Murray (two clubs), Riverton, South Jordan, Herriman, Orem, Spanish Fork (two clubs), Salem and Saratoga Springs.
Volunteer training will be held in each community in February. The training takes an evening to complete. The clubs will be formed by April.

BIG GAME OPPORTUNITIES
New opportunities await those who apply for a Utah big game hunting permit this year. Beginning Jan. 17, applications for 2007 general buck deer, limited entry, once-in-a-lifetime and Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit hunts will be available from hunting and fishing license agents statewide, the Division of Wildlife Resources' Web site (wildlife.utah.gov) and DWR offices. To be included in the draw for permits, applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 or through the DWR's Web site no later than 11 p.m. on Feb. 16.
Two thousand hunters can take both a buck deer and a bull elk during a new combination buck deer/bull elk hunt that will be held in the Northern Region this fall. Hunters who draw one of the permits will also receive an any-bull elk permit. The new buck deer/bull elk hunt will be held Oct. 6-18. More information about the combination hunt is available on page 24 of the 2007 Utah Big Game Proclamation.
Additional rifle hunting permits will be available for the late November hunt on the Monroe, Pahvant and Southwest Desert units in southwestern Utah. Additional permits also will be available for the archery hunt on the San Juan unit in southeastern Utah. The archery hunt starts in August.
WINTER RUNNING SERIES
The Salt Lake City Track Club is sponsoring a series of winter running events.
A 5K race will be held on Jan. 27, a 10K race on Feb. 10 and a 15K race on Feb. 24. All races will be run along the I-80 frontage road on the southern edge of the Great Salt Lake near Saltair.
Additionally, the club sponsors weekly conditioning sessions on Mondays (except holidays) at Sugarhouse Park, fun runs on Wednesday evenings at Highland High School and Saturday mornings at various locations throughout the valley.
