TYLER STRONG, Bingham: The Miners vaulted back up to No. 3 in the state, and the play of senior forward Tyler Strong is a big reason why.

Last Wednesday, Strong racked up 13 points, including three 3-pointers, as Bingham toppled previously unbeaten Hillcrest, 71-60. Two nights later, Strong tallied 23 to lead Bingham to a thrilling 72-67 triple-overtime win over Alta. Strong made 8-of-8 free throws in the overtimes against Alta.

Strong is Bingham's second-leading scorer, averaging 11.4 ppg.

Strong was also a starting wide receiver on Bingham's 5A state championship football team, and he was named to the academic all-state team.

ERIKA NEWBOLD, Bingham: This junior demonstrates her mental toughness every time she steps to the foul line.

"She's a tremendous foul shooter," said Miners head coach Rand Rasmussen. She also helps her team with the way she moves on the court. "She helps us just with her physical presence."

Her efforts as power forward have helped the second-ranked Miners to a 10-1 record. She scored 14 points and had eight rebounds in just 15 minutes of play against Jordan last week and is being recruited to play basketball in college.

"She's hilarious," Rasmussen said of her personality. "She is a full-time, around-the-clock hoops player."
