Amy Donaldson's "Rants and Reason" article (Jan. 3) was terrific except for one glaring example. Like other articles on the subject, Donaldson paints a warm and rosy picture of current Title IX laws, saying that those who think otherwise are "uninformed" and "misguided."
Recently, James Madison University in Virginia announced that, in order to stay in compliance with current Title IX laws, it is slashing seven men's sports teams and three women's sports teams. Would someone please explain how this decision, and others like it throughout the country, are a good thing? It's a very unpopular opinion, but current Title IX laws are doing more harm than good. There must be reform that can benefit male sports without hurting female sports.
