Cottonwood Heights is throwing a birthday bash Saturday at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center, 7500 S. 2700 East. Utah's newest city turns 2 years old this month, and all Cottonwood Heights residents are invited to the party.

The Recreation Center has been reserved beginning at 3 p.m. with activities and refreshments for all ages. Swimming, skating, basketball and racquetball are free to any who want to participate. Grizzbee, mascot to the Salt Lake Grizzlies, will join skaters on the ice rink at about 4:30 p.m. Racquetball players are asked to reserve courts even though the event is free.

Cottonwood Heights Mayor Kelvyn Cullimore will cut the cake near the ice rink at 5:30 p.m., prior to a demonstration of synchronized skating.

The Salt Lake Symphony is presenting a concert in the Butler Middle School auditorium, 7530 E. 2700 East, beginning at 7 p.m. The concert will feature family friendly classical music. Selections include numbers from Phantom of the Opera, classic cartoons and "Cloudburst," from Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite. Cottonwood Heights resident Elizabeth Palmer is a featured violinist.

The only charge for the birthday party is the cost of the concert. Tickets cost $5 per family, for parent(s) and dependent children, or $2 per person. They are available at the city office, 1265 Fort Union Blvd., Suite 250, and the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center, 7500 S. 2700 East.
