BYU to present lectures linked to art exhibit

PROVO — A series of 14 lectures presented by the Brigham Young University Museum of Art and the BYU religious education department are scheduled Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 10.

The lectures are in conjunction with the Museum of Art exhibition, "Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ." They will be held in the Museum Auditorium from 7-8 p.m.

Speakers from the religious education department and other Latter-day Saint scholars will address the events of Jesus' life, from his pre-mortal ministry to the advent of the Restoration. The museum will remain open until 9 p.m. Wednesday nights to accommodate the lecture series.

Additionally the Museum of Art will present five lectures on selected Thursday evenings that will address the artistic styles and conventions used throughout the history of Christian art. The lectures will be presented by the exhibition curator and other BYU art historians in the Museum Auditorium from 7 to 8 p.m.

The first event Wednesday will include an Introduction by Campbell B. Gray, director of the BYU Museum of Art, and Terry B. Ball, dean of religious education. The lecture, "The Savior's Pre-mortal Ministry," will be by Alonzo L. Gaskill, assistant professor of church history and doctrine.

All lectures are free and open to the public.
