ST. GEORGE — A trial for a pastor accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl has been postponed.

During a hearing in 5th District Court Thursday, Gabriel Carlin's defense lawyer requested a continuance. The trial was scheduled to start Jan. 23.

Court records indicate an attorney for the 11-year-old girl objected to any delay, but the judge ordered the trial to be rescheduled.

Carlin, 32, is charged with four counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. St. George Police said Carlin sexually molested the girl while she was a student at a Christian school where he is a teacher and a pastor.

The girl reported the abuse to her parents in March 2006. They, in turn, contacted police.
