Timeline: President Gerald Ford in Utah

• Dec. 6 1978: — Ford gives Deseret News reporter Rod Decker an exclusive interview. Ford says that before the Nixon pardon, "I had to spend 25 percent of my time listening to lawyers on his papers and tapes and other questions. The only way to get it off the deck was to pardon him. I did it, and I'll defend it."
• Feb. 12, 1982: — Ford talks to University of Utah students at Kingsbury Hall, heartily endorsing President Reagan's economic and military programs.
• July 31, 1982: — Visits Utah to campaign for Rep. Dan Marriott, R-Utah.
• June 2, 1986: — Ford golfs at Jeremy Ranch as part of the Great American Indian Shootout, and takes some swings at politics, too, including supporting President Reagan's decision not to honor some provisions of the SALT II treaty limiting strategic arms.
