Timeline: President Gerald Ford in Utah

Oct. 28-29, 1972: House Minority Leader Ford campaigns in Salt Lake City and Provo for local Republican candidates and for President Richard Nixon.
June 6-9, 1974: Vice President Ford talks to Utah State University graduates and says Nixon should receive equal credit with recent Nobel Peace Prize winner Henry Kissinger for peace settlements in Vietnam and the Middle East. He meets with the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and listens to a special concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He also meets and stays overnight with his close friends, the Browns of Tremonton.
Nov. 1, 1974: Makes a 2 1/2-hour campaign stop to help Salt Lake City Mayor Jake Garn in his run for the U.S. Senate. In a speech at the University of Utah, he urges Utahns to help him chop off the tentacles of an "octopus-like government in Washington." He also meets at the airport with two of his sons, 18-year-old Steve (a Montana ranch hand) and 22-year-old Jack (a Utah State University student).
Nov. 29, 1977: Former President Ford helps honor hotel magnate J. Willard Marriott at a Salt Lake City banquet.
Dec. 4-5, 1978: Ford spends two days talking to classes and assemblies at Brigham Young University, including telling students at a Forum address to help "take away the hate from the hearts of our citizens."
