Following are some of the key visits to Utah by Gerald Ford:

May 10, 1968: — U.S. House Minority Leader Gerald Ford visits Utah to campaign for Rep. Sherm Lloyd, R-Utah.

Oct. 28-29, 1972: — House Minority Leader Ford campaigns in Salt Lake City and Provo for local Republican candidates and for President Richard Nixon.

October 1973: — Vice President-designate Gerald Ford arrives to visit his son, 21-year-old Utah State University student Jack Ford. He also visits Jim and Gloria Brown, of Tremonton. Ford met Jim Brown at Weber College in the early 1960s when Ford stumped for former Rep. Laurence Burton, R-Utah, and then spent many Christmas vacations together.

June 6-9, 1974: — Vice President Ford talks to Utah State University graduates and says Nixon should receive equal credit with recent Nobel Peace Prize winner Henry Kissinger for peace settlements in Vietnam and the Middle East. He meets with the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and listens to a special concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He also meets and stays overnight with his close friends, the Browns of Tremonton.

Nov. 1, 1974: — Makes a 2 1/2-hour campaign stop to help Salt Lake City Mayor Jake Garn in his run for the U.S. Senate. In a speech at the University of Utah, he urges Utahns to help him chop off the tentacles of an "octopus-like government in Washington." He also meets at the airport with two of his sons, 18-year-old Steve (a Montana ranch hand) and 22-year-old Jack (a Utah State University student).

Nov. 29, 1977: — Former President Ford helps honor hotel magnate J. Willard Marriott at a Salt Lake City banquet.

Dec. 4-5, 1978: — Ford spends two days talking to classes and assemblies at Brigham Young University, including telling students at a Forum address to help "take away the hate from the hearts of our citizens."

Oct. 24, 1978: — Former President Ford visits Salt Lake City for a fund-raiser to help Rep. Dan Marriott, R-Utah.

Dec. 6 1978: — Ford gives Deseret News reporter Rod Decker an exclusive interview. Ford says that before the Nixon pardon, "I had to spend 25 percent of my time listening to lawyers on his papers and tapes and other questions. The only way to get it off the deck was to pardon him. I did it, and I'll defend it."

Feb. 12, 1982: — Ford talks to University of Utah students at Kingsbury Hall, heartily endorsing President Reagan's economic and military programs.

July 31, 1982: — Visits Utah to campaign for Rep. Dan Marriott, R-Utah.

June 2, 1986: — Ford golfs at Jeremy Ranch as part of the Great American Indian Shootout, and takes some swings at politics, too, including supporting President Reagan's decision not to honor some provisions of the SALT II treaty limiting strategic arms.
