Three people have been chosen as potential candidates for a judicial position that will become open with the February 2007 retirement of 7th District Judge Bruce Halliday.

The district includes Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties.

The 7th District Judicial Nominating Committee has chosen these nominees: W. Brent Langston, chief deputy county attorney for Emery County, from Ferron; Gene Strate, Carbon County attorney, from Helper; and Douglas Thomas, 2nd District Court commissioner, from Layton.

The public is invited to comment on the nominees before the names are given to Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. for his selection and confirmation by the Senate.

Written comments may be sent to 7th District Nominating Commission chairman Sam Singleton; Administrative Office of the Courts; P.O. Box 140241; Salt Lake City, UT; 84114-0241. The submission deadline is Tuesday.
