OGDEN — Police have identified the man killed in a shoot-out with officers.

Police said Jesse Turnbow, 29, was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers near the intersection of 35th Street and Jefferson Avenue.

"He said, 'Shoot me!'" said Esther Green, who was working on a roof nearby when the shooting occurred Monday night.

Green and other eyewitnesses in the neighborhood told the Deseret Morning News they heard a shotgun blast, followed by several pistol shots. They heard at least one more blast from the shotgun, and return fire from police.

Ogden police said Tuesday that Turnbow had gotten into an altercation near 34th Street and Adams Avenue and was walking about a block away when three officers confronted him.

"He turned and pulled a gun from his clothing," Ogden Police Lt. Scott Conley said Tuesday. "It was a sawed-off shotgun."

The shooting is now under review by the Weber County Attorney's Office and Ogden police. The three officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is routine when a weapon is discharged.

Court records show Turnbow had a criminal record that included drug, theft and weapons charges. In 1995 and 1998, Turnbow pleaded guilty to criminal charges involving guns.
