PRESTON EATON, Springville: This senior actually experienced what virtually every basketball player dreams about last Friday.
With his team trailing by two on the road, Eaton drained a half-courter at the buzzer to lift the Red Devils (5-1) to a 64-63 victory over Cyprus.
Eaton, who finished the game with 27 points, was one of the state's leading 3-point shooters last year with 51.
The 5-foot-10 guard, who many believe is the state's best shooter, leads the state with a 25.8 scoring average six games into the season. Easton's season-high so far this season is 34 points in a 64-61 loss to Timpanogos last month.
ANDE MILLER, Taylorsville: This senior guard loves basketball so much she played most of her junior season on a broken foot.
"She's always excited to play," said Warriors coach Jace Hymas. "She's always hopping around, ready to go."
Traditionally a force on offense, she has developed into one of 5A's top defenders. She scored 18 points in the Warriors' upset of Lone Peak last Tuesday, and then Thursday led her team again with 15 points in an overtime win over Timpanogos.
"She's always volunteering to take on the other team's ace, if it's a guard," Hymas said.
