Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said in a statement that it's too early to tell what might happen with immigration reform, given the "mixed signals" from Democratic leadership. Hatch voted against the comprehensive measure passed by the Senate earlier this year.

"We know what many Democrats supported last Congress — amnesty and a flawed guest-worker system — but things change when you become responsible for the results," Hatch said. "My hope is that members from both parties will be able to come together and find a genuine compromise that the American people can accept."

Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, who voted for the Senate's measure, supports comprehensive reform and said in a statement he looks forward to continuing the debate.

"It is my understanding that immigration is not part of the Democrat's first 100-hour plan, but I hope they will include it in their legislative agenda for the new Congress," Bennett said.
