The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation gave a $5 million pledge to the renovation of the Marriott Library on the University of Utah campus, raising the total pledges from the Marriott family to more than $12 million.
The gift brings total project funding to $69 million, with $8 million more to raise. About $48 million of that is from the state, $3 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and more than $18 million in donations.
"The Marriotts have shown extraordinary generosity from the very beginning," said Joyce Ogburn, director of the J. Willard Marriott Library.
Current renovations to the library include a seismic overhaul, upgrades to electrical and plumbing systems, as well as students areas such as an Advanced Technology Studio and a Knowledge Commons.
