Real Salt Lake general manager Steve Pastorino announced Monday that the club has waived four players, reducing its active roster to 24 players.
The team has opted not to renew the contracts of midfielder Seth Trembly, in addition to defenders Douglas Sequeira, Cameron Knowles and Jacob Besagno.
"We thank these players for their contributions to Real Salt Lake on and off the field," said Pastorino in a press release. "All four are great pros who will find a place to play in 2007 and beyond."
Knowles and Trembly spent two years with Real, while Sequeira and Besagno joined the team in 2006.
Knowles was selected in the 2005 Supplemental Draft and appeared in four games last season. This year, the New Zealander only appeared with the reserve squad.
Trembly played in 22 games in 2005 after being acquired from the Colorado Rapids, but an ACL injury kept him on the sideline the entire 2006 season.
Sequeira joined RSL following the 2005 season in a trade with Chivas USA. He started 13 games in 2006, and appeared in five others for Real coach John Ellinger. He missed over a month of the MLS season representing his native Costa Rica at the World Cup in Germany.
Besagno joined Salt Lake late in the 2006 season on loan from the Seattle Sounders of the USL First Division, and he appeared in three reserve games.
