Russell Banz has been named vice president of new media for Bonneville International, a Salt Lake-based broadcasting company.

Banz has served as Bonneville's corporate liaison on new and alternative media issues for the past two years. In his new role, he will have oversight and managerial responsibilities for the company's newly created new-media department.

Since 2004, Banz has served as director of new initiatives for Bonneville. He joined the Bonneville team in 1996 when he worked in marketing at KSL Television. Later, he led the team that launched the KSL.com Web site. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.

"The widespread adoption of many new-media platforms and emerging technologies has created many challenges and opportunities for the radio and television broadcasting industry," Banz said in a prepared statement. "It's my goal to make sure that we are serving our communities with valuable news, information, music and entertainment, regardless of whether it is on the Web, on mobile devices or on any new-media platform."

Bonneville International owns and operates 28 radio stations and one television station in six U.S. markets. The company, like the Deseret Morning News, is owned by Deseret Management Corp., a holding company for businesses affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
