Master gardener program

The Utah State University Extension Service's 2007 master gardener program starts Jan. 24 at the Davis County Memorial Courthouse in Farmington.

Classes are ongoing for 11 weeks and are held on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program includes 40 hours of mandatory volunteer hours. Volunteer time includes projects at the Utah Botanical Center and Utah House in Kaysville, demonstration gardens, grow units in elementary schools, Davis County fairs and festivals as well as plant diagnostic clinics.

Topics covered in the classes include trees and shrubs, flowers, insects and diseases, landscape design, turf grass, water conservation, fruits and vegetables, pesticides, soils, nutrients and other topics relating to horticulture and gardening.

Cost of the program is $125. Registration forms are at the extension office in the courthouse, or those interested can call 451-3403 to have one mailed to them.
