The number of Utahns filing for bankruptcy increased to 419 in November, up from 158 filings in November 2005, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah.
Yet filings from January through November were down 79 percent compared with filings through the same 11-month period last year.
High figures during the summer and early fall last year were attributed to people trying to beat the deadline before a new bankruptcy law went into effect Oct. 17.
