Back in August, the Deseret Morning News sports staff decided to feature BYU quarterback John Beck and Utah defensive back Eric Weddle on the cover of its college football preview section.
The choice was, and still is, obvious.
Twelve games later, it's safe to say that both players lived up to massive expectations. Beck and Weddle validated their preseason conference player of the year selections with their performances on the field and subsequent postseason honors. Tuesday, Beck was named the MWC's offensive player of the year, while Weddle was named its defensive player of the year.
