"If you look at the list of major issues and initiatives, these are programs that are impacting people's lives directly and you can see it," Councilwoman Jenny Wilson said. "I'm very proud of this budget. It impacts people on a very personal level."

The budget also includes money to continue Corroon's efforts to clean up county government. He asked for an associate director for the Administrative Services Department, which Corroon recently created to provide oversight of several county divisions such as fleet and personnel. Both divisions have been plagued with scandal over the past few years.

The council also allocated funds for more law enforcement, fire stations in Magna and Millcreek township, and a business technology park in the county.

Not everyone got what they asked for in the budget process. The council denied Sheriff Aaron Kennard's request to reopen Oxbow Jail, as well as a plea to open up two additional units at the county jail to ease jail crowding. The council also refused to approve Clerk Sherrie Swensen's request for more voting machines.
