This might help. Here's a quick rundown on some of the hottest items on the market for the outdoor enthusiasts.
Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx GPS. The latest in GPS systems has expandable memory and a sunlight-readable color display. Provides rapid first fix and is sensitive enough to acquire signals in urban canyons and dense foliage. Has electronic compass, barometric sensor and tracks elevation gain and loss and weather trends. Available at REI. Price: $499.95.
Eastman Ice Cube. This is a two-person or four-person ice-fishing shelter that can be set up in less than 60 seconds, is lightweight and offers protection from the elements wind, cold and sun. Available at Fish Tech Outfitters. Price: $165 and up.
REI Taj 3 Tent. This is a three-season, three-person lightweight backpacking tent. Easier to enter and leave, and new pole design offers more interior room. Two built-in vestibules, upper vent and clear film window. Available at REI. Price: $229.
Hobi Cat Kayak. The Mirage is a three-power-system sit-on-top kayak pedal, paddle and/or sail. What this means is the boater can move through the water hands-free by sailing or pedaling, which makes it ideal for things like fishing or relaxing. Comes in solo or tandem models, from 9-feet-6 to 13 feet. Made to fit on rooftop racks. There are eight models in a wide range of colors. Available at Sidsports. Price: $1,100 to $2,200.
Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) Shoes and Sandals. The MBTs were inspired by the Masai tribe in Africa. It was found that they suffer few of the discomforts so common today, such as back, knee and hip pain. The design of the sole challenges the core strengthening muscles for more supportive muscle action to create good posture and increases shock absorption for all the joints. Available at Runner's Advantage. Price: $244.99.
