Hotel taxes will rise soon in 5 counties

Five Utah counties will begin collecting more taxes from hotels beginning Jan. 1.

Garfield, Iron, Tooele, Wayne and Weber counties all elected to utilize legislation passed this year that allows counties to increase the transient room tax from 3 percent to as much as 4.25 percent.

Garfield, Iron and Wayne counties opted for the full increase to 4.25 percent. The hotel tax will increase to 3.5 percent in Tooele County and 4.1 percent in Weber County.
