I am usually the first to bristle at political correctness. In general I find it to be the "lazy man's" way of not learning about or appreciating the culture and beliefs of others. However, I have no problem with "happy holidays" since I know we (Christians) are not the only ones celebrating a religious holiday. Can you imagine the amount of space needed to list greetings for Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, not to mention all the other cultural or religious holidays celebrated this time of year? The newspaper the day after Thanksgiving is thick enough as it is.
"Happy holidays" is not born out of political correctness as much as expediency. Besides, it is pretty arrogant to expect everyone to accept "merry Christmas" as the holiday greeting, when they celebrate equally important holidays during the same general time.
