JAKE MILLER, Bear River: Transitioning from football to basketball wasn't much of a problem for this Bear River junior.
On Nov. 17, Miller was instrumental in leading Bear River to the 3A state championship with seven tackles defensively and then 33 rushing yards and one touchdown offensively.
Four nights later on Nov. 21, Miller scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Bears' basketball team to a 65-61 season-opening victory over Sky View.
Miller finished the football season with 45 tackles and five touchdowns. On the hardcourt, Miller is coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 11 points and six rebounds.
TANZA BUROKER, Riverton: This senior outside hitter learned as a sophomore than every day on a volleyball court is a gift.
"Ever since she sprained her ankle as a sophomore, she takes nothing for granted," said Silverwolves volleyball coach Trudy Pecorelli. "She works hard every day at practice."
It doesn't hurt that Buroker is a naturally gifted athlete who helped the team finish eighth in the 5A state tournament.
"I call her the garbage collector because no matter where the set goes, she will put it in play," Pecorelli said.
Buroker is a three-year starter, a member of the track team and is also on Riverton's High Honor Roll.
