Winner: Salt Lake County's lobbyist, The Tetris Group, quit unexpectedly this week, before the County Council could decide whether to extend its contract for $50,000. Considering the group also represents cities and other interests that are fighting the county on key issues, the real question should be why county Mayor Peter Corroon would have recommended extending the contract in the first place.
Loser: It's hard to fathom the kind of mind capable of cooking a cat and carefully placing it on a pan of rice and vegetables. But someone did such a thing and left it on the doorstep of an Ogden auto dealer Wednesday morning. Investigators are trying to determine whether the cat was alive at the time it was mutilated, in which case criminal charges could be pending. Either way, however, someone out there has a sadistic streak that may be evidence of much more serious problems.
