The BioVault is a 12.5-by-17.75-by-6-inch storage device for handguns, ammunition, jewelry, coins, data, stocks, bonds and personal documents. Its fingerprint technology verifies identification and permits access in less than one second. Up to 50 authorized users, whose fingerprint information is stored in flash memory, can use each BioVault. It operates up to a year under normal use powered by three D-cell batteries. An AC/DC adapter is included, and the flash memory retains fingerprint data even during complete battery or electrical failure.

The BioLock is a biometrically accessible deadbolt door lock system. It, too, can be programmed for up to 50 users. It runs on four AA batteries, fits on most standard doors and is available in two finishes.

If you're a supreme multitasker or simply want to impress friends with a weird little thing, buy the Zelco Safety Fish ($12, www.zelco.com). Designed to prevent water overflow in bathtubs or sinks, the Safety Fish attaches via suction cup. The user adjusts the cord to the desired water level, and the Safety Fish will beep constantly once the water rises above it.

If you're a golfer wanting to avoid water completely, consider another item that's admittedly not the highest of high-tech, the Swing Detective ($59.95, www.swingdetective.net). It's designed to help duffers straighten their stroke without even hitting a ball.

Story continues below
The Swing Detective sports a pair of LED lights strategically placed on a bracket that attaches to a head end of a club. The lights illuminate on the downswing. Swing with the club out of alignment and the LEDs leave a pair of "tracer" lines. Swing properly and you'll see the lines get closer together or even form a single image, helping reinforce proper muscle memory to replicate good form on the course.
