College choirs to perform holiday music

On Wednesday, the University of Utah Singers and A Cappella Choir will be joined by chamber choirs from Utah State University, Weber State University and Utah Valley State College for their first ever musical collaboration.

The concert, which was conceived by Brady Allred, the U.'s director of choral studies, takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for students and children, and $25 for a family pass.

More than 200 singers will join forces to perform traditional holiday music, along with original works. On the program will be such classic favorites as "The First Noel," arranged by Dwight Bigler; "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," arranged by Jim Taylor; "Ding Dong Merrily on High"; and Donald Fraser's "The Christmastide." The singers will be accompanied by harp, piano, accordion and Libby Gardner's pipe organ.

Allred will conduct the U.'s choirs, Cory Evans will direct the choir from USU, Mark Henderson will direct the WSU choir and Dyanne Riley will conduct UVSC's choir.
