VISIT BRITAIN. If you're looking to visit the U.K. and want to get the most for your money, winter is a good bet. Prices on vacation packages and airline tickets are a relative bargain in winter and early spring, says VisitBritain, the national tourist office for England, Scotland and Wales. An example: VisitBritain has partnered with American Airlines Vacations and Thistle Hotels for vacation packages in London that start at $543 for round-trip airfare from JFK, three nights hotel accommodations (with breakfast, double occupancy). The package includes a double-decker bus and River Thames sight-seeing tour. Book the package online through Feb. 15 for travel up until the end of February. Details on this "Just Go" package are on the Web at

Representatives of the directory do on-site inspections to provide readers with the best information.
AIRPORT FOOD IS GETTING HEALTHIER, at least according to a new report by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. A survey of the 13 busiest airports in the United States showed that 88 percent of the restaurants surveyed offer at least one vegetarian entree that is low in fat, high in fiber and is cholesterol-free. Orlando International Airport came in first; Houston George Bush International Airport had the most improved score. McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas placed last, even though it made a 27-point improvement over 2005.
