JACKSON OWEN, Timpview: While the Thunderbirds' dominating defense garnered most of the headlines this year, it's hard to imagine Timpview ultimately winning the 4A state championship without Owen.

In last Friday's 21-12 championship game victory over Highland, this senior carried the ball 31 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

Following the game, Owen said, "I've been waiting for this my whole life. I haven't really taken it all in yet, but I know we're state champs and I'm happy."

Owen finished the season with 274 carries for 1,470 yards and 17 TDs.

JAICEE KURESA, Mountain Crest: This senior outside hitter led her team for the past two seasons both statistically and emotionally.

"This year especially, she was just a great team leader," said coach Lori Karaghouli. "It was her second year as team captain, and she was our go-to player."

One of Kuresa's strengths is her athleticism. She averaged 21 kills but was also a great defender and solid server. She earned 13 aces against Box Elder and had a hitting percentage above .300. "She's just a great athlete," said Karaghouli. "She doesn't hold back." Kuresa also plays basketball and has gone to state every year in the high jump and long jump.
